What we fix
We work on a wide range of laptop and computer faults across Cheadle Hulme and the surrounding area, including:
- Blue screen errors — traced to the source, whether that's a hardware conflict, a failing drive, or a corrupted system file causing the machine to crash on startup
- Laptops that won't boot — failed updates, damaged partitions or drive faults that prevent the machine from getting past the loading screen
- Virus removal — including stubborn infections that have resisted previous attempts to clean them and continue to affect performance or security
- Performance issues — SSD upgrades, RAM additions and system clean-ups for machines that have slowed to a crawl
- Data recovery — files retrieved from drives that have failed, corrupted or stopped being recognised by the operating system
- Screen replacements — assessed individually to confirm viability and repair costs before anything is agreed or ordered
- Charging port faults — diagnosed as part of a full assessment rather than replaced on assumption
- PC and desktop repair for home and office setups across Cheadle Hulme
Is the laptop worth repairing?
It depends on three things: the age of the machine, the nature of the fault, and what a repair costs against what a replacement would. We give an honest answer to that question — not one shaped by an interest in taking the job on.
Most faults that look terminal aren't. A laptop showing a blue screen or refusing to start is often recoverable with targeted work rather than a full replacement. A drive swap, a system reinstall, or a component-level fix can give a machine several more years of reliable use at a fraction of the cost of buying something new. Where a repair does make sense, we say so and explain why. Where it doesn't, we'll say that too — and where the data matters, we'll look at recovery options regardless of what happens to the machine itself.
Timescales and pricing
Virus removals, software reinstallations and performance upgrades are typically completed the same day or within a couple of days of collection. Jobs requiring parts or in-depth data recovery work take longer — we give a realistic timescale at the point of assessment, not an optimistic one that gets revised later when the job turns out to be more involved.
The fixed price quoted at the outset is the price on the invoice. If something changes during the repair, or a component that needs replacing is identified, we stop and discuss it with you at the earliest opportunity rather than presenting a revised bill after the fact. You stay in control of what's agreed and what gets spent.
